The part the whole building sits on
A house, a shop, a garage, a warehouse. Every one of them sits on a slab or a foundation, and everything above it moves if the slab moves. PressCrete pours monolithic slabs and slab on grade foundations for homes and for builders.
Monolithic slabs
The footing and the floor poured as one piece, with thick edges to carry the walls. One pour instead of two. Common for houses, garages and shops on flat lots.
Slab on grade
A floor poured on a compacted gravel base, with a vapor barrier under it and steel in it. Shops, garages, warehouses and many houses sit on one.
How we pour a slab
- Grading. The site is cut and filled to the plan so the slab sits level and drains.
- Base. Gravel goes down and gets compacted. This is what keeps the slab flat.
- Forms and steel. Forms set to the plan, then rebar or wire mesh tied in.
- The pour. A truck backs up to the spot. If it cannot, a pump truck parks in the street and its boom carries the concrete over.
- Finish. Troweled flat, joints cut, and covered while it sets.

What is a monolithic slab?
A monolithic slab is a foundation where the footing and the floor are poured at the same time as one piece. The edges are thicker to carry the walls. It is common for houses, garages and shops on flat lots.
What is slab on grade?
A slab on grade is a concrete floor poured on top of the ground, on a gravel base, with no crawl space or basement under it. Most shops, garages and many houses sit on one.
What if a concrete truck cannot reach my spot?
We bring a pump truck. It parks in the street or the drive and its boom carries the concrete over a house, a fence or a wooded lot to the pour. Our photos show a few of those pours.
What goes under a slab?
A compacted gravel base, then a vapor barrier if the slab is under a building, then steel, then the concrete. Once the slab is poured, nobody sees the base again. It still decides whether the slab stays flat, so it gets the most care.
